In the studio art department of the University of Maryland, the classroom provides an opportunity to reflect on issues very specific to the “lens culture” as analogue photography asserts its claim to truth in the transition through the digital age of fabrication and fiction. In this academic environment, students contemplate the overall theoretical context of the photographic image in its current state of fluctuation and begin to position themselves as young artists integrating work, friendships, and family. Ultimately the goal as educator is to contribute to a community of photographers who wish to inspire and educate each other.
